Here is what’s next after applying with First Choice Care

You’ve done it, your application’s in and your journey with First Choice Care is underway! Curious about what comes next? We’ll walk you through every step, so you know exactly what to expect and how to prepare for your first shift with us. 


Your application review: what to expect 

While our team reviews your application, there are a few things you can do to prepare. Behind the scenes, your application is shared with the right First Choice Care team, depending on your state or specialty area. Our recruitment consultants carefully review your experience, qualifications and preferences to find the best fit for you. 


Top Tip: Make sure your CV is up to date and showcases all relevant experience for the role. 

This process usually takes about two to five business days. Once it’s complete, one of our consultants will be in touch to discuss next steps and guide you through onboarding if successful. 


Get ready to join First Choice Care 

While we review your application, there are steps you can take to make your onboarding faster and smoother. Gathering these documents early will help us confirm your details, finalise your pay rate and get you ready for your first shift. 


1. Confirm your work history 

Your Statement of Service helps us confirm your work history so we can make sure you’re paid at the right level. If you’re an Enrolled Nurse (EN) or Registered Nurse (RN), we use it to confirm your year level and if you’re an Assistant in Nursing (AIN), Personal Care Worker (PCW) or Personal Care Assistant (PCA), it helps us check the recency of your work. 


To obtain it: 

  • Request it from your former employers’ HR departments. 
  • Check that it clearly lists your total hours worked. 


2. Complete key background checks 

To work with First Choice Care, a National Police Check is mandatory. Depending on your state, you may also need additional checks such as a Working With Children Check (WWCC). 

 

  • National Police Check (NPC) –  It’s important to remember that the NPC must be issued within the last twelve months and clearly state that it’s for employment or work purposes, ideally mentioning work with vulnerable people. You can apply online (tip: keep your receipt, it’s tax deductible!).
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC) – Required in some states or for certain roles, such as paediatrics . Check your state’s WWCC website for details and fees. 

 

3. Gather your vaccination and immunity records 

Having your immunisation evidence ready helps us confirm your compliance quickly. Your recruiter will also discuss any specific client requirements during the interview. 

  • Hepatitis B – Serology showing immunity or two documented doses. 
  • Core Vaccines – Evidence for DTPa (tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis), MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) and Varicella (chickenpox). 
  • COVID-19 – At least two doses; some states require a third, especially in aged care – note, this is not mandatory for all First Choice Care clients. 
  • Influenza (Flu) – Annual vaccination proof may be required. 

 

Depending on where you work, extra checks like Hepatitis A in Western Australia A or TB form (all states) may need to be completed.   


4. Refresh your training and competencies 

At First Choice Care, we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence. That’s why all our nurses are required to complete our own online education modules, ensuring consistent, up-to-date training across our workforce. 


While we don’t generally accept external education, we do require practical competency certificates for key clinical skills, including Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR, First Aid and Advanced Life Support (ALS). The specific certifications needed may vary depending on your designation and scope of practice. 


5. Prepare your identification documents 

You’ll need 100 points of ID to verify your identity. 

This includes: 

  • 1 document from Category A (e.g., Passport or Birth Certificate), and 
  • 3 documents from Category B (e.g., Driver’s Licence, Medicare Card, Proof of Age Card). 
  • If you are currently on a Visa, please include evidence of your working rights in Australia
    At least one must include a photo. 

 

6. Take a photo for your ID badge 

A clear, professional photo helps us prepare your First Choice Care ID badge (think Passport style with a smile). 


Top Tips: 

  • Use natural lighting and a plain background. 
  • Avoid filters or heavy edits. 
  • Face the camera directly and smile naturally. 

 

Next Steps: You’re almost there! 

Once you’ve gathered these documents and completed the necessary checks, you’ll be fully prepared for a smooth and speedy start with First Choice Care. Our team will be in touch as soon as your application has been reviewed to guide you through   collecting your uniform, setting up the My FCC by PeopleIN App and confirm your first shift.
